Gerber Vintage Model 450 4.5" Fixed Blade / Indexed Rosewood & Brass / Polished 440C ( Pre Owned )
"You see here what are considered the finest fixed knives produced in any factory of the world. For, although they are built within our Port- land, Oregon plant, they are, for all intents and purposes, custom made knives. Here's why: Only a few master Gerber craftsmen have earned the right to create these knives. They work separately in a special section of the plant, each knifemaker taking a knife through the production steps. They begin with a blade of 440-C surgical stainless steel, unequalled in edge-holding capabilities. Each blade is hardened to a Rockwell rating of C58-60, and the tested hardness is etched into the blade base. Handles are carved to a comfortable grip out of a solid hardwood from South America, known for its extremely dense wood fibers and durability. The deep finger grooves, besides looking nice, pro- vide a sure, solid grip under any conditions. In either hand. A finger notchh in the blade itself, along with a ribbed spine on top of the blade, allow the hand to be moved forward for more controlled cuts. The handle is bonded permanently to the blade. The buttcap and guard are solid stainless steel investment castings accented by solid brass inserts which contrast richly with the wood handle. All resulting in a knife that is as impressive to look at as it is to use." Page 6 of the 1979 Gerber Catalog LINK
